EKO HOT BLOG reports that the appointment was confirmed in an official statement issued from the State House on Thursday. Majekodunmi takes over from Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who was appointed as the pioneer Director-General of the council in June 2024.
According to the statement, Majekodunmi brings over 17 years of experience as a climate finance expert and environmental lawyer. Her career has spanned roles that focused on shaping climate policy, promoting sustainable environmental practices, and leading international engagements on behalf of Nigeria.
Before her elevation to the position of Director-General, she served as the Financial Adviser to the NCCC, where she played a key role in the strategic development of climate financing frameworks and policy formulation. Her appointment is seen as a continuation of the council’s drive to strengthen Nigeria’s climate governance and enhance the country’s participation in global climate action.
The presidency noted that Majekodunmi’s selection aligns with President Tinubu’s administration’s broader commitment to addressing climate change through capable leadership and expert-driven policy implementation.

“The appointment of Majekodunmi is a strategic move to deepen Nigeria’s response to climate-related challenges and strengthen the nation’s institutional capacity to meet international climate obligations,” the statement read.
