Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a ₦60 billion defamation lawsuit against former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, at the Enugu High Court.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the legal action, which was initiated on Thursday, centres on claims that Omokri made several defamatory and damaging publications against Kanu and IPOB. According to the writ of summons, Kanu is seeking ₦50 billion in general damages and an additional ₦10 billion in aggravated damages.
Kanu’s legal team, led by counsel Aloy Ejimakor, is also demanding a public retraction and apology to be published in two national newspapers and on Omokri’s verified Twitter (X) account. The IPOB leader wants the court to grant a perpetual injunction restraining Omokri and his affiliates from making further defamatory statements about him.
Part of the reliefs requested in court include:

₦50 billion for general damages over defamation, emotional distress, and prejudice to ongoing judicial proceedings

₦10 billion for aggravated damages over alleged malicious and reckless publication

Public apology and retraction to be made in two national dailies and on Twitter/X

10% interest on the monetary award from the date of judgment till full payment

Legal costs incurred by Kanu to be covered

Confirming the development, Ejimakor wrote on X, “Yesterday, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu commenced a muscular legal action against Reno Omokri, seeking a retraction, apology and damages for Omokri’s highly defamatory and prejudicial publications against Mazi Kanu, IPOB, and Ndigbo.”
Kanu remains in detention and is currently facing terrorism-related charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
