Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has strongly criticised politicians who pledge to serve just one term in office, describing such promises as signs of mental instability.
According to Eko Hot Blog, the governor’s comments come shortly after George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Anambra, pledged to serve only one term if elected in the upcoming November 8, 2025, election.

Moghalu’s pledge was made to support the zoning and power rotation arrangement in the state.
At the national level, former presidential candidate Peter Obi of the LP and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, have both indicated their willingness to serve only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027.
Obi has emphasised the need for any southern president elected in 2027 to honour the unwritten power-sharing agreement and vacate office by 2031, respecting the zoning principle.
Speaking during a political rally in Anambra South to back his bid for a second term, Soludo dismissed the one-term pledge as unreasonable and unconstitutional.

He insisted that since the Nigerian constitution allows governors to serve two terms, committing to only one term is irrational.
“Anyone who says they will serve only one term should undergo a psychiatric examination because it suggests mental instability. Tell me where such a thing has ever happened. You are treating us like fools,” he said.
