Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has denounced the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by armed security officials, Eko Hot Blog reports.

Speaking on Channels Television, Rhodes-Vivour criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and called on President Bola Tinubu and the APC Governors’ Advisory Council (GAC) to reprimand the assembly’s former speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, for his alleged role in the incident.

Recall that EKO HOT BLOG reported on Monday that the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) operatives stormed the assembly complex, preventing Speaker Mojisola Meranda from entering.

Rhodes-Vivour described the incident as an assault on the legislature, emphasizing that those involved should be ashamed of their actions.

The LP candidate also expressed concerns about the leadership crisis in the assembly, which has been ongoing since Obasa’s removal as speaker.

“The APC has sort of normalised this idea of using intimidation and force to get their way, and that is what we say today.

“An attempt to intimidate the speaker to resign and step aside using armed men and the threat of violence, and that is unacceptable.

“His (Obasa’s) leaders in the GAC, the president, should call him to order. Lagos State has advanced way past. We don’t want to go to new lows. There are civilised ways to handle these things. His party should call him to order.

“Armed men coming into the assembly is a big low and a disgrace to our politics in Lagos. It’s completely disgraceful,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate that all the allegations that were brought before the former speaker, all sorts of corruption allegations, we have not seen anything come out of it.”

The ongoing dispute over the Lagos State House of Assembly’s leadership has taken a legal turn, as Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker, filed a lawsuit against the Assembly and the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

The lawsuit, submitted to the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, contests the legality of Obasa’s removal during the Assembly’s recess period.
