The three day event is expected to bring together key stakeholders from across Nigeria’s HIV and AIDS landscape, including representatives from federal and state health ministries, development partners, civil society groups, and local community organisations.
Dr. Animashaun revealed that the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo Olu, will officially open the event on August 5, while Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu will deliver the closing remarks on August 7.
A Gala Night will also be held to recognise exceptional contributions and celebrate progress in Nigeria’s fight against HIV.
“This Council is happening at a critical moment,” Dr. Animashaun said. “With declining global donor funding, it is essential that we focus on sustainable, locally driven strategies to preserve our achievements and accelerate progress toward ending AIDS by 2030.”
She expressed pride in Lagos hosting the Council, noting that it will provide an important platform to evaluate current efforts, address emerging issues, and design effective strategies to strengthen the national HIV response.
She further underscored Lagos State’s dedication to inclusive and progressive health interventions. “Lagos continues to lead with transformative HIV policies and programmes.

Hosting the 7th National Council on AIDS reflects our commitment to inclusive progress and leadership in the health sector,” she said.
Dr. Animashaun encouraged all stakeholders, both public and private, to actively engage in the Council and contribute to building a sustainable, inclusive, and impactful future for HIV and AIDS response efforts in Nigeria.
