PSG’s crowded goalkeeper lineup means at least one of the five goalkeepers will likely depart this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), fresh off their Champions League triumph, has secured the signing of promising goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille on a five-year deal, a move that casts fresh doubts over the future of current No.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Eko Hot Blog reports that while the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, French sports daily L’Équipe peg the initial cost at just above €40 million ($46.5 million), with potential add-ons pushing the figure to €55 million.

Chevalier, 23, earned widespread acclaim last season during Lille’s Champions League campaign, delivering standout saves against European giants Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus including a remarkable stop against Dušan Vlahović that even the Juventus striker applauded.
Following the signature, Chevalier said,
“I’m living a dream I’ve had since childhood Playing at the highest level has always been my goal. I’ll wear this jersey with passion and determination.”
A product of Lille’s well-regarded youth academy, Chevalier featured in 127 matches for the northern French side. Known for his speed, agility, and sharp anticipation, especially when coming off his line, he is still seen as improving in aerial situations like crosses and corners.
His arrival fuels speculation that Donnarumma, 26, may seek a move, unwilling to settle for a backup role under PSG coach Luis Enrique. Donnarumma was key to PSG’s Champions League success last season, widely regarded as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers, but with just one year remaining on his contract, contract talks have stalled.

PSG, having experienced the heartbreak of losing Kylian Mbappé on a free transfer, is unlikely to let Donnarumma leave without financial compensation.
Meanwhile, PSG’s goalkeeper roster is already crowded with three backups: Matvei Safonov, Arnau Tenas, and 19-year-old Renato Martin. Managing five goalkeepers could prove difficult, meaning at least one — possibly two — will likely exit in the coming transfer window.
Donnarumma’s own PSG journey began in a similar fashion when he arrived after Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, swiftly displacing Keylor Navas despite Navas’ excellent prior season.
PSG is set to kick off their Ligue 1 campaign against Nantes on August 17, with goalkeeper decisions looming large.
