United States President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that there will be serious consequences if Russia fails to take steps toward ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this warning comes ahead of a crucial meeting between both leaders scheduled for Friday — their first face-to-face engagement since Trump resumed office in January.

Although the exact terms of what Trump is expecting from the Kremlin remain unclear, the American leader stated that the meeting would serve as an opportunity to “understand Putin’s boundaries and intentions regarding the conflict.”

Speaking in Washington on Wednesday, Trump said there would be fallout if things do not go in the right direction, but he refused to give specific details about what the consequences might involve.
“There will be consequences, very severe ones,” Trump said. When asked whether this would mean imposing more sanctions or economic penalties, Trump responded, “I don’t need to explain that now.”
Earlier this year, Trump had threatened fresh sanctions on Moscow as a way to push Russia to the negotiation table. Although a deadline was initially set for last Friday to announce these sanctions, it passed without any official action being taken.
Efforts toward a ceasefire have remained stuck, with little progress from the Russian side. Diplomats say the Kremlin continues to resist international pressure to come to the table for meaningful talks.
In a related development, Trump held a phone call earlier with European leaders and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky. The call, described as positive, focused on aligning strategies ahead of the Friday meeting.
According to Trump, “It was a good discussion,” adding that the parties shared a common interest in seeing peace restored in Ukraine.
