- South-East Support for Tinubu Expected to Surge Ahead of 2027 Election
- Tinubu garnered just 127,370 votes in the South East in2023
- Bwala argued that Obi’s influence had declined
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the president will see a substantial increase in votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s current affairs programme on Wednesday, Eko Hot Blog reports that Bwala said Tinubu could secure up to two million votes from the region, a figure he claimed would be at least four to six times higher than the number of votes the president received in 2023.

In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu garnered just 127,370 votes in the South-East.
“This is going to be, I don’t know how to describe it, but let me take you zone by zone. In the South-East, I guarantee that President Bola Tinubu will get more than four, if not six times, the number of votes he received before. He could reach up to two million,” Bwala said.

When asked how Tinubu would achieve two million votes if Labour Party candidate Peter Obi is on the ballot, Bwala argued that the region has a large voting population and claimed Obi’s influence had declined.
“There are lots of votes in the region,” he said, adding that Obi would only act as Director-General in the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“As I said, he is unlikely to secure a ticket in any of the parties ADC, PDP, or LP. Peter Obi may not even get a vice-presidential slot given the current situation. Even if he does become a party candidate, he has lost more than half of his previous support because those votes were not based on a clear agenda or political strategy. They were built on rhetoric and division, and Nigerians are now more aware.”
Bwala also suggested that the recent defections of southern governors to the APC, along with endorsements from governors in opposition parties, would strengthen the president’s support and popularity in the South-East ahead of the next election.
