- NLC has strongly opposed the proposed review of political office holders’ salaries
The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mohammed Shehu, has called for a review of the salaries of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ministers, and other political office holders.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Shehu revealed that President Tinubu currently earns N1.5 million monthly, while ministers receive less than N1 million. He noted that these salaries have not been reviewed since 2008.

Highlighting the rising cost of living, Shehu argued that the salaries are inadequate and outdated.
“You are paying the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria N1.5m a month, with a population of over 200 million people. Everybody believes that it is a joke.
“You cannot pay a minister less than ₦1m per month since 2008 and expect him to put in his best without necessarily being involved in some other things. You pay either a CBN governor or the DG ten times more than you pay the President,” Shehu said.

His remarks have sparked reactions from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has strongly opposed the proposed review of political office holders’ salaries.
The NLC argued that any upward review of political salaries ignores the worsening inequality in the country.
