The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians to acquire basic combat skills as part of essential survival training.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, General Musa compared self-defence training to learning how to drive or swim, stressing that such knowledge is vital for survival regardless of whether the country is at war.

“That one should be taken as learning driving, learning how to swim. Whether we have war or not, it is a survival instinct,” he said. “In Europe, swimming is compulsory; so is learning and teaching about security, because you have to understand what security is.”
General Musa further suggested that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) should incorporate unarmed combat training into its programme to better equip Nigerian graduates for self-defence and daily survival against threats.
He emphasized that security remains the responsibility of all citizens, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings to quickly detect suspicious persons or activities.
Meanwhile, General Musa has issued a stern warning to individuals or communities aiding bandits in any form. Speaking at an interactive session organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) in Kaduna earlier this week, the CDS said anyone providing food, fuel, accommodation, or other assistance to criminal groups would be treated as terrorists.
“If we find out that you are part of the criminal network by supplying them, you are also a bandit, you are also a terrorist,” he warned.

The CDS vowed that the military would intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property across the north and other parts of Nigeria, assuring that those plotting instability would be firmly dealt with.
