Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that his political ambition is not driven by desperation to become president but by his desire to see Nigeria attain genuine progress.
Atiku made this known during an affirmation ceremony for new members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held on Saturday in Lagos, where several chieftains from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) formally defected to ADC.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that represented by Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, Atiku reiterated that his priority is the country’s future, not his personal ambition.
“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. It’s not about him being president at all costs. It is about ensuring good governance that delivers for Nigerians,” Olateju stated.
He described the ADC as more than just a political party, noting that it represents a movement to reposition the country. “It’s no longer politics as usual. It’s a new beginning. The must is not for Atiku to be president, but for Nigeria to deliver for its citizens,” he said.
Atiku, who recently left the PDP alongside some opposition figures to join ADC, maintained that Nigeria needed a leadership reset, especially in the face of economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and rising inflation. He stressed that with purposeful governance, a better Nigeria remains possible.
On the ADC presidential ticket for the 2027 elections, Atiku said the choice would be left to party members. “It is not a thing we can predetermine. Whoever emerges through a free and fair contest will get our full support. We are not imposing anyone. The focus is on a better Nigeria, not Atiku for president at all costs,” he said.

He added that the coalition within ADC is committed to representing the collective voice and aspirations of Nigerians.
