A 32-year-old painter, Chigozie Clement, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting the seven-year-old son of one of his customers in the Ketu Alapere area of Lagos, Eko Hot Blog reports.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect is said to have lured the child away from his home on Monday and later contacted the boy’s mother to demand a ransom of N7 million for his release

The victim’s father reported the incident at the Alapere Police Division, after which the case was transferred to the Special Squad I for discreet investigation. Detectives traced Clement to the Ijegun area, where he was apprehended and the child was rescued unharmed.
Hundeyin stated, “On August 25, 2025, the victim’s father reported that his son had been taken from the house without consent by his painter.
Shortly after, the suspect contacted the victim’s mother, demanding N7,000,000 as ransom. Following the report, the case was transferred to Special Squad I for discreet investigation.
On August 27, 2025, operatives traced the suspect to Ijegun, Lagos, where he was arrested, and the seven-year-old was rescued from a locked room. The child has been reunited with his family.”

During interrogation, Clement allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming that he resorted to kidnapping to meet his personal family needs.
The police added that the suspect will be charged in court soon, while investigations continue to determine if he had accomplices.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassures residents that the command will continue to deploy all available resources to combat crime,” the statement concluded.
