In a decisive move to uphold environmental sustainability, five offenders — Akaa Isaac, Abiodun Lawal, Mwughoro Precious, Joshua Oloruntoba, and Ibrahim Atiku — have been convicted for illegal dumping of waste at the Shapati area of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the culprits were arraigned before the Magistrate Court, Magbon-Alade, where they pleaded guilty to charges in violation of Section 115(4) of the Environmental Management Protection Law.

Delivering judgment, the court ordered the offenders to clean up the affected area, pay a fine of ₦15,000 each, and register with a licensed waste management authority within 48 hours. Failure to comply would attract a one-month jail term.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, reiterated his administration’s strict policy on indiscriminate waste disposal.
“This judgment sends a clear message that Ibeju-Lekki will not tolerate any act that undermines our commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment,” he said.
A resident of Shapati, Mrs. Adetoun Balogun, commended the move, describing it as a wake-up call to residents.
“It is about time people understood that indiscriminate dumping of refuse affects everyone.
I commend the local government for taking this bold step,” she stated.
Another resident, Mr. Olalekan Shittu, emphasized the importance of compliance.
