The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), through its College of Languages and Communication Arts Education (COLCAED), has made history with the successful hosting of its maiden international conference.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the landmark event, themed “Language, Literature, Communication, and Education in a Changing World: Innovations, Challenges, and the Future”, took place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Lecture Theatre III, Epe Campus.

The conference brought together eminent scholars, researchers, and educators from across the globe to engage on the evolving intersections of language, communication, and education in today’s fast-changing world.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Morufudeen Adeniyi Shittu, welcomed participants and described the theme as both “ambitious and urgent.”
He stressed that the seismic shifts in technology, pedagogy, and global interactions require “fresh perspectives from academics and practitioners alike.”
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Jane Setter, an internationally renowned phonetician from the University of Reading, United Kingdom, and editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Phonetics, spoke on “English Pronunciation for a Global World.”
She emphasized that pronunciation remains a critical tool for effective global communication, adding that “listening, speaking, and reading skills are indispensable for mastering English in ways that ensure international intelligibility.”
She further highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for teachers in today’s interconnected society.
Complementing the keynote, Professor Francis Egbokhare, a celebrated linguist and former President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, delivered the lead paper titled “The Role of Digital Technologies in Education.”
He showcased the Naijasyncor pidgin project and examined the broader role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital platforms in education and the humanities.
“Technology offers transformative potential for flexible learning, new knowledge systems, and inclusive practices,” he argued.
In his remarks, Professor Olumuyiwa Anthony Viatonu, Head of Epe Campus, praised the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for their dedication, noting that “the power of teamwork makes achievements like this possible.”

Closing the conference, the Ag. Dean of COLCAED, Professor Cecilia Folashade, encouraged participants to sustain the momentum, stressing that “this maiden edition should serve as a springboard for collaborations and research that can redefine scholarship in language, literature, communication, and education.”
The event ended with award presentations and an interactive Q&A session, leaving participants energized for future engagements.
