EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said the President’s action demonstrated his unwavering commitment to peace and the preservation of democratic governance in Nigeria.
President Tinubu had earlier on Wednesday announced the end of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, which was declared in March following a bitter political crisis between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike. The suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly had effectively grounded governance in the oil-rich state until the President’s directive for the governor to resume office on Thursday, September 18.
Reacting to the development, Wike described the decision as a bold step that restored democratic leadership and strengthened the confidence of Rivers people in the President’s administration.
“The President’s intervention has reassured the people of Rivers State of his dedication to peace, progress, and stability. The people’s unwavering support for his leadership is a testament to their trust in his vision for national development,” Wike said through his aide.
He further urged political stakeholders in Rivers State to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of peace and collective growth.
The Minister also cautioned those he described as “fifth columnists” against exploiting the crisis for selfish gain, stressing that the future of Rivers State must now be anchored on unity, progress, and development.
“From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress, and development,” Wike declared.
