Teenage girls from public secondary schools across Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA gained life-changing knowledge on menstrual hygiene as the Council hosted a special enlightenment programme at the Secretariat, Agbowa, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, themed “Menstrual Hygiene: Caring for the Girl Child,” was spearheaded by the Council Chairperson, Dr. Olajumoke Nafisat Anomo, a seasoned medical doctor, who also served as host.
In her address, Dr. Anomo stressed the importance of equipping young girls with the right knowledge for healthy and confident living.
“These sessions are not just about hygiene, they are about dignity, confidence, and preparing our girls for the future,” she said, while also demonstrating practical steps for maintaining menstrual and general hygiene.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Aishat Dehinsilu, Wife of the Leader of the House; Mrs. Hassan; and the Chief Whip of the Legislative Council, Hon. Adesanya Shakirat, alongside management staff and teachers.
Commending the initiative, Hon. Adesanya Shakirat said, “What Dr. Anomo has done today is more than education,it is an empowerment programme that will shape the lives of our girls for the better.”
Also speaking, Aishat Dehinsilu noted, “This kind of programme is a blessing to the community because it addresses sensitive issues that many young girls shy away from. I am proud to see our LCDA setting the pace.”
Students and school representatives welcomed the programme with enthusiasm,
describing it as a timely intervention that would boost the welfare and confidence of young girls in Ikosi-Ejinrin.
