The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has begun implementing new pension increments for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), with adjustments set to reflect in the September 2025 payroll cycle.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued on Tuesday and shared via its official X handle, PTAD announced the increment package includes a fixed payment of ₦32,000 as well as percentage increases of 10.66% and 12.95% for different categories of beneficiaries.

Consequently, the adjustment will benefit approximately 832,000 pensioners currently under PTAD’s management.
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval in August of a series of welfare reforms for pensioners after a formal request from PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, for emergency budgetary support.

Also, the reforms include the ₦32,000 increment, harmonisation of pensions across all DBS categories, enrolment of pensioners into the National Health Insurance Scheme, and settlement of longstanding unfunded liabilities.
According to PTAD, the release of ₦820.188 billion by the Federal Ministry of Finance out of an approved ₦845 billion emergency allocation made it possible to commence payments immediately.
The agency described the move as proof of the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of retirees in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
PTAD expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the Ministers of Finance, the Accountant-General of the Federation, as well as key legislative committees for their roles in securing the approval.
Pension associations such as the Nigeria Union of Pensioners were also commended for their cooperation during the process.
