To underscore the importance of the comeback, NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, joined passengers on the maiden trip from Idu Station in Abuja to Rigasa Station in Kaduna.
The train, which made a brief stop at Kubwa to pick up commuters, arrived safely in Kaduna, with a return trip scheduled the same day to signal the full restoration of services along the corridor.
Speaking after arrival at Rigasa, Dr. Opeifa expressed gratitude to God for the successful resumption and reassured Nigerians of the corporation’s renewed commitment to safety and service delivery.
He emphasized that modern rail infrastructure remains vital for national unity and development, noting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s heavy investments in the sector.

“We are determined to transform the NRC into a world-class, passenger-friendly service provider,” Opeifa said, outlining plans to complete ongoing projects, rehabilitate rolling stocks, optimize assets, expand services, and modernize operations particularly along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor.
To further boost passenger confidence, Opeifa disclosed the creation of a dedicated Customer Service Department and highlighted visible security measures, including the deployment of police and military personnel along the corridor and at stations.
He assured that discreet but effective strategies have also been put in place to safeguard all stakeholders.
With the successful resumption, the NRC says it is focused on positioning the AKTS as a symbol of safe, efficient, and modern railway service, capable of driving socio-economic growth nationwide.
