EKO HOT BLOG reports that his passing was confirmed by filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who announced the news on Instagram. According to him, Michael died a few days ago after a prolonged battle with a terminal illness.
“Nollywood actor Duro Michael had kicked the bucket. He died a few days ago after battling a terminal illness… may his soul rest in peace. Omo, it’s well ooo. We no dey help ourselves in this Nollywood, and it’s too bad… No synergy,” Stanley wrote in his tribute.
Michael’s health struggles had been public for years. In 2022, he reportedly received ₦5 million in financial assistance from Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin for treatment, but his condition deteriorated despite the support. By 2024, the actor appealed to producers for more help, urging them to continue giving him roles in movies.
During his career, Duro Michael appeared in several Nollywood films, including Midnight Love (2003) and The Guilty (2006), earning recognition for his versatile performances. His death adds to the growing list of Nollywood veterans lost in recent years, sparking renewed conversations about welfare and support structures within the industry.
In a separate development, Nollywood star Yul Edochie expressed concern over the declining use of the Igbo language among younger generations. Writing on Facebook, the father of five lamented that many Igbo children can no longer speak their native tongue, calling it a failure that both parents and the community must urgently address.
