EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement signed by its President, Dr Lawal Umar, and Secretary, Dr Amogu Kalu, the association described Mrs Tinubu’s gesture as an exceptional act of patriotism and visionary leadership.
It noted that instead of receiving personal gifts for her 65th birthday, the First Lady urged well-wishers to donate to the National Library Project Fund, a move that has renewed hope for the long-delayed project.
The association explained that the fundraising account would remain open until December 2025 to allow more contributions. It said the initiative highlighted the critical role of libraries in promoting education, literacy, and national development.
“For decades, the unfinished National Library has been a source of disappointment. Your Excellency’s intervention has brought new energy and focus to the importance of a national repository of knowledge,” the statement read.
The association also pledged to collaborate with the Office of the First Lady to ensure the library’s completion, proper furnishing, and functionality. It called on the Federal Government and National Assembly to make consistent budgetary allocations to sustain the library’s operations.

The statement concluded that Mrs Tinubu’s name “has been written in gold” for her remarkable commitment to education and literacy advancement in Nigeria.
