Ekpo described the move as a major milestone in the government’s efforts to ensure safety, transparency, and environmental responsibility within the country’s growing gas ecosystem.
“With the NGVMS, only vehicles converted at accredited facilities with certified kits can access CNG at approved stations,” the minister said.

He explained that the system would provide end-to-end monitoring, from vehicle conversion to refuelling, ensuring both citizen safety and operational integrity.
Ekpo added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Decade of Gas Initiative, which seek to position CNG as Nigeria’s most affordable and sustainable energy alternative.
Also speaking, the Chairman/CEO of the Presidential Initiative on CNG (PiCNG), Ismaeel Ahmed, revealed that more than $1 billion in private sector investments has already been injected into the CNG value chain, highlighting the growing confidence of investors in the sector.
