The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has pledged unified support from all Iwoland communities for Akin Ogunbiyi, an APC chieftain and governorship candidate in the August 8, 2026 election.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that during a consultation visit to the Oluwo’s palace, Oba Akanbi emphasized the unity of Iwo Federal Constituency, which includes Ayedire, Olaoluwa, and Iwo Local Government Areas.
He stated that all indigenes must back Ogunbiyi, the sole aspirant from the constituency, and expressed willingness to reach out to other parts of the state to support his campaign.

“Iwo, Ileogbo, Kuta, and other towns in Iwoland are united. We must work together for progress. Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi is our son, and I pray God grants him the governorship of Osun State,” the Oluwo said.
Ogunbiyi, in his remarks, declared his intention to run on the APC platform and sought the backing of the communities. He highlighted Iwoland’s population advantage and promised to champion development initiatives across the state.
He also noted that slower development in the area stemmed from indigenes’ lack of representation in key government positions.

The royal backing may prove vital as other aspirants also mobilize support. For example, Bola Oyebamiji, former Osun Commissioner for Finance, has secured backing from APC leaders in Ila, Boripe, and Ayedaade local government areas.
Oyebamiji, currently Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, pledged to promote Osun’s interests if elected.
The APC primary is scheduled for December 13, 2026, with aspirants actively engaging party loyalists across the state ahead of the contest.
