President Alassane Ouattara has been declared the winner of Ivory Coast’s 2025 presidential election, extending his stay in power for a fourth consecutive term.
The country’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), while announcing the provisional results on Monday, confirmed that the 83-year-old leader secured 89.77 per cent of the total votes cast in the October 12 poll.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Former commerce minister Jean-Louis Billon and ex-first lady Simone Gbagbo came a distant second and third, with 3.09 per cent and 2.42 per cent of the votes respectively. IEC chairman Ibrahime Coulibaly-Kuibiert described the exercise as largely peaceful and transparent.
Billon has since conceded defeat, while Gbagbo reportedly congratulated Ouattara following the announcement of the results.
The outcome came as little surprise to political observers, especially after the disqualification of major contenders, including former president Laurent Gbagbo and ex-Credit Suisse chief executive Tidjane Thiam.
Reacting to the results, Thiam dismissed the election as “not a real contest”, alleging that it was held under restrictions and low voter participation.
Ouattara, a former deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is widely credited with steering Ivory Coast’s economic growth during nearly 15 years in power.
The Ivorian leader reaffirmed that this would be his last term in office, pledging to consolidate peace and economic reforms in the country.

With this victory, Ouattara joins the ranks of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, though he remains behind Cameroon’s 92-year-old Paul Biya, who recently secured an eighth term after more than four decades in office.
