The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday received the body of the Senator representing Rivers South East, Barinada Mpigi, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement signed by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, the minister arrived at the airport around 5:30 a.m. alongside other political figures to receive the late lawmaker’s remains.
The senator’s wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children accompanied the body back to Nigeria.
Among those present were the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mao Ohuabunwa; Senator Philip Aduda; the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda; and the Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Desmond Akawor, alongside other associates and supporters.
Mpigi died in London on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 64. His passing drew tributes from political stakeholders in Rivers State and across the country.

Last Thursday, Wike travelled to London to condole with the senator’s family. During the visit, he met with Mpigi’s wife and children and coordinated arrangements for the repatriation of the remains for burial in Nigeria.
