President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over alleged persecution of Christians, describing the claim as inaccurate and inconsistent with Nigeria’s constitutional values.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the U.S. government had listed Nigeria among nations accused of failing to protect religious freedom, an allegation the Nigerian government has consistently rejected, calling it misleading and politically motivated.

Reacting through a statement shared on his verified X account, @officialABAT, on Saturday, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to upholding religious liberty and peaceful coexistence among its citizens.

“Nigeria remains a pluralistic democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious freedom.
Since 2023, our administration has actively engaged both Christian and Muslim leaders and continues to address security challenges affecting citizens of all faiths,” the President said.
He added that the U.S. classification ignores decades of interfaith collaboration and the sustained efforts of successive governments to promote unity across religious lines.

“The portrayal of Nigeria as religiously intolerant is inaccurate and fails to reflect the progress made in safeguarding freedom of belief for all Nigerians,” Tinubu stated.
The President reaffirmed that religious harmony remains one of the pillars of the Nigerian state, stressing that the government neither supports nor condones persecution.
He assured that Nigeria would continue to work with the United States and other global partners to advance mutual understanding and protect communities of all faiths.
