Alade explained that her growing dependency and the secrecy surrounding her smoking habit made her question her choices and ultimately pushed her to quit.

“Some people say I don’t smoke or drink, but when I was in university, I actually tried smoking,” she admitted. “At first, it seemed harmless, but before long, I started needing to smoke before bedtime.

I realized I was getting addicted. And in public, I would hide to smoke, which made me feel uncomfortable.”
The award-winning singer said that as a teenager trying to find her path in life, she made a conscious decision not to continue with any habit that she had to hide from others.
“I told myself that if I have to hide to do something, then it’s not worth doing. I want to always be aware of my actions and my surroundings. That was when I decided cigarettes weren’t for me,” she added.

Alade also revealed that smoking had started affecting her vocal performance a major wake-up call for her as a musician.
“They weren’t good for me. They started harming my voice, and I couldn’t afford that. So I stopped. My smoking phase didn’t even last up to a year,” she said.
