The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi over his reaction to the United States’ recent designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that the APC accused Obi of exploiting a sensitive national issue for political gain rather than showing true statesmanship. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party described Obi’s response as “too little, too late, and too predictable,” alleging that it lacked sincerity, urgency, and a unifying tone.

According to the APC, Obi’s delayed comments reflected “a lack of patriotic conviction”, claiming his eventual reaction came only after mounting public pressure. The party further alleged that Obi tends to “thrive politically” during national challenges, turning sensitive issues into opportunities for “political resurrection.”
“For a man always seeking microphones and hashtags, his sudden silence was deafening until well-meaning Nigerians began to question it publicly,” the statement read.
“It has become clear that Obi did not speak out of patriotic instinct, but out of public pressure and fear of exposing his double standards. Leadership is proactive, not reactive, and certainly not driven by online agitation.”

The ruling party defended President Bola Tinubu’s approach to national security, stating that his administration inherited ongoing challenges but is tackling them through strategic reforms.
“President Tinubu is confronting insecurity with courage and strategy strengthening military command, deploying modern technology, and addressing the economic roots of insecurity through bold reforms,” the statement added.
The APC urged Nigerians to remain focused on the Renewed Hope Agenda, warning against individuals who “profit politically from the nation’s challenges.”
