Nigeria mourns the passing of Major General Abdullahi “Adangba” Mohammed (rtd), former Chief of Staff to President Obasanjo and ex-NSO Director-General, who died at 86.

The late General Mohammed held several key positions during his illustrious career — including Military Governor of Benue-Plateau State, Director-General of the NSO, National Security Adviser to former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Chief of Staff to both Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umar Musa Yar’Adua.

Governor AbdulRazaq extended his condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Ilorin Emirate Council, the Nigerian military, and the deceased’s family. He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the departed and for strength for his family to bear the loss.
In a separate condolence message, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari mourned the passing of the elder statesman with “deep sadness.”

According to a statement by his Press Secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir described General Mohammed — popularly known as “Atoto” — as “a proud son of the Ilorin Emirate and an exemplary Nigerian who used his influence and resources to promote peace, unity, and development.”
He commended the late general’s patriotism and generosity, noting that “he was a detribalised leader who dedicated his life to the service of humanity and upliftment of the less privileged.”
The Emir also extended sympathy to the deceased’s family, the Kwara and Plateau State governments, and the Federal Government of Nigeria, praying Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
