The United Arab Emirates (UAE) had stopped issuing visas to Nigerian citizens in 2022 following the suspension of Emirates flights over disputes linked to the airline’s trapped funds in Nigeria and other operational concerns. The development had affected thousands of Nigerian travellers who regularly used the Dubai-based carrier for international trips.
With operations now set to resume, Emirates said the decision reflects its commitment to reconnect Nigerian passengers to Dubai and to more than 140 destinations across its global network.
In a statement on Thursday, the airline’s Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government for its cooperation and support in restoring the route.
“We are excited to resume our services to Nigeria. We thank the Nigerian government for their partnership and support in re-establishing this route, and we look forward to welcoming passengers back on board,” Kazim stated.
The renewed partnership follows a high-level meeting in September between President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, which was aimed at mending diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.
The return of Emirates is expected to boost air travel connectivity, tourism, and business opportunities between Nigeria and the UAE.
