EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, confirmed the existence of the plot during an interview with journalists at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Tuesday.
Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State, said the impeachment move was neutralised through the intervention of lawmakers who prioritised the unity and stability of the 10th Senate. He noted that the upper legislative chamber remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities, including lawmaking and oversight functions that support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address national economic challenges.
He said, “Though there were attempts, we didn’t allow that to happen. That is why I always say we are one big family, and it is not going to happen. The Senate is united behind its leadership.
“Whatever the problem is, the Senate is more interested in making laws that will help President Tinubu overcome the economic difficulties our people are going through. We are more interested in the people. The legislations we are making are pro-people, and we are focused on ensuring Nigerians can eat three times a day.”
According to reports, several lawmakers had expressed dissatisfaction with Akpabio’s leadership style, alleging exclusion from key decisions, committee appointments, and major legislative consultations. Others reportedly complained about inadequate communication on critical national issues, including budget processes and security briefings.
Despite the tension, Kalu maintained that the Senate remains stable and united, insisting that internal disagreements will not derail its commitment to national development.
