According to reports by TMZ, the award-winning artist was detained for nearly six hours after police executed a bench warrant issued over his failure to appear in court. The arrest was connected to a prior driving offence in Roswell, New Mexico, where authorities discovered that Akon’s driver’s licence had been suspended since January 2023.
Police sources revealed that the situation escalated after a traffic camera flagged his white Tesla Cybertruck, which had earlier been found abandoned on a Georgia road due to a dead battery. Upon inspection, officers discovered the vehicle had no valid insurance, and further checks linked the licence suspension to a previous court no-show.
During the arrest, Akon was reportedly calm and cooperative. Officers also confiscated a vape found in his car before taking him into custody. He was later booked at the DeKalb County Jail on November 7 and released on bail the same day.
A mugshot of the singer wearing a black hoodie quickly went viral on social media following his release. Despite the brief detention, Akon proceeded with his scheduled performance in New Delhi, India, on November 10.

As of the time of this report, neither Akon nor his management team has issued an official statement regarding the arrest or the circumstances surrounding it.
