Ambassador Umar Damagum has been unanimously confirmed as the substantive National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party during the party’s 2025 Elective National Convention in Ibadan.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the confirmation was carried out on Saturday at the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, where thousands of delegates gathered to ratify the PDP’s new leadership structure and adopt key decisions affecting the party’s future.
The motion for Damagum’s ratification was moved by the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP, Hon Tony Abineri, who emphasised that he was speaking on behalf of the 3,000 accredited delegates attending the convention. Abineri said, “I move the motion for the ratification of Ambassador Umaru Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party. This is in accordance with Section 32 of the Constitution of the PDP as amended.”

In other developments at the convention, the party announced the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the former National Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu. The announcement was made during the ongoing convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
