- Surah Animashaun clarifies that electricity provision is strictly a Federal and State Government responsibility.
- The council has supported communities with transformers, repairs, and anti-vandalism interventions.
- Engagements with the Ministry of Energy and IKEDC are ongoing to secure better and more stable electricity supply for Epe.
The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess (Dr.) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has reaffirmed that electricity provision does not fall under the statutory responsibilities of Local Government Councils, emphasizing that the duty lies with the Federal and State Governments.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Surah Animashaun made the clarification on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Epe Local Government Secretariat during a Youth Engagement Session held alongside the empowerment of 100 girls to mark her first 100 Days in Office in her second term.

The statement followed a question from Comrade (Senator) Saheed AbdulRahmon regarding the persistent electricity challenges in Epe.
Addressing the concerns, Surah Animashaun said: “In the area of electricity, some people just criticize this administration destructively.
I want you to know today that provision of electricity is not the responsibility of any Local Government.

It is beyond us. What we can do is support with transformers or necessary repairs, and we have not stopped doing that because we care about our people’s well-being.”
She further explained that her administration had previously worked with other council chairmen to address issues of vandalism affecting electricity infrastructure across the division.
“There was a time vandals were constantly attacking electricity cables in Epe Division. As a government, we collaborated with other Local Government Chairmen, fought the vandals, and ensured many were apprehended,” she said.
Surah Animashaun added that sustained engagements had been held with the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and senior officials of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) in a bid to find lasting solutions.
Despite these efforts, she acknowledged that supply remains inconsistent across different communities.
“Some areas now enjoy steady electricity, while others still have none.
Some only see a flash and it goes off. We are not happy with the situation, but we will continue to push for better supply, especially from the Federal Government,” she noted.
The Chairman assured residents that her administration will continue to offer support through repairs, transformer interventions, and advocacy until a more dependable solution is achieved for the entire Epe Division.
