Eko Hot Blog reports that a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Mainland II, Shabi Rasheed Adebola, has urged members of the Federation of Epe Division Students’ Association National Parliamentary Council (FEDNPC) to build their leadership journey on the foundations of academic excellence and respect for cultural heritage.
The lawmaker gave the advice during a consultative engagement with the youth parliamentarians from Epe Division, where discussions centered on leadership development and sustainable community growth.
Hon. Shabi emphasized that effective leadership requires a blend of intellectual strength and a deep understanding of one’s cultural identity, noting that young leaders must remain rooted in the traditions that define their communities.
“To truly develop our community, we must equip ourselves with the tools of modern knowledge while remaining firmly rooted in the values and traditions that define us.”
He encouraged the youth parliamentarians to treat education as a lifelong pursuit, stressing that modern governance demands leaders who are knowledgeable, analytical, and prepared to confront both local and global challenges.
The legislator also reminded them that cultural heritage plays a vital role in strengthening unity and identity within communities, urging them to serve as ambassadors of the traditions and values of Epe Division.
“A leader without a grasp of their culture is like a tree without roots. When cultural pride is combined with academic excellence, it produces leaders who are truly unstoppable in driving meaningful change.”
Hon. Shabi described the visiting youth parliamentarians as representatives of a new generation of leaders who have the capacity to shape the future of their communities through discipline, knowledge, and visionary leadership.
The session concluded with members of the council reaffirming their commitment to uphold the principles of academic excellence and cultural consciousness in their respective constituencies, while also expressing appreciation to the lawmaker for his mentorship and guidance.
