Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says the wave of insecurity sweeping across the country is being deliberately orchestrated by political actors who want to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the 2027 elections, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking on Politics Sunday, a Channels Television programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, the former Abia State Governor rejected claims that the President is not doing enough, stressing that Tinubu is fully engaged and receiving constant intelligence briefings.

Kalu alleged that killings, attacks and abductions recorded in recent weeks are not random incidents but carefully planned efforts by unnamed individuals and groups to make the administration appear weak. According to him, the pattern mirrors the political sabotage he believes former President Goodluck Jonathan faced before the 2015 election.
He said the President’s decision to cancel all engagements on Sunday showed the seriousness with which he is handling the crisis.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that security agencies will recover students kidnapped in the latest school attacks, assuring that the security chiefs are fully mobilised and determined to track down the perpetrators.
Kalu argued that tackling insecurity requires cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments, noting that some governors are too quick to blame Abuja for problems within their domains. Drawing from his experience as Governor of Abia, he said he confronted similar challenges by establishing the Bakassi security outfit which he credited with driving criminals out of the state.
He even offered himself for urgent deployment if necessary, saying he could stabilise any troubled state within six months if given the mandate.

Pressed by the host to identify the political players allegedly fueling insecurity, Kalu declined, saying the intelligence community was already investigating and would release names if needed.
He also addressed the debate over state police, explaining that it cannot take effect without a constitutional amendment supported by two thirds of state houses of assembly. He recalled that the effort failed in the ninth Senate because state assemblies rejected the proposal.
Turning to the case of Indigenous People of Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu, Kalu said resolving the crisis requires a political solution rather than emotional arguments. He insisted that while Kanu must face trial for incitement that led to violence, the broader conflict in the South East can only be settled through dialogue. He referenced recent interventions by Bianca Ojukwu and Mascot Uzor Kalu calling for calm.
Kalu disclosed that he has been in talks with relevant authorities and intends to engage the Attorney General and the President in pursuit of a political resolution. He recalled the pressure he applied in 2017, saying he lobbied the then administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for Kanu to be granted bail before joining the ruling party.
While urging caution from Kanu’s supporters, he defended the trial judge, Justice Omotosho, saying the judge acted within the law and that anyone dissatisfied should pursue an appeal. He confirmed that Kanu’s legal team has already done so.
Kalu added that the Senate leadership is actively discussing the crisis and has been working on recommendations which will be forwarded to the security agencies.
