In a renewed effort to strengthen integrity and accountability in the railway system, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has inaugurated a reconstituted Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to serve as an internal mechanism for curbing corruption and promoting ethical conduct across all operations.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Managing Director of the corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa, who led the inauguration, said the initiative reflects the NRC’s commitment to building a workplace culture rooted in transparency and respect for due process.

A statement issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, quoted Opeifa as saying that the event represents another important step in the management’s collective mission to strengthen integrity and accountability within the corporation.
He commended the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for its continuous support, noting that the partnership has helped reinforce the NRC’s governance structure.
Describing ACTU as a vital mechanism created by ICPC, Opeifa said the unit will function as the corporation’s watchdog, ensuring ethical standards in service delivery, procurement, financial management and staff behaviour.

He urged the newly inaugurated members to ensure full compliance with regulations, report lapses without delay, promote continuous awareness on anti corruption responsibilities and work closely with the ICPC.
Opeifa assured them that the NRC management will continue to provide an environment where accountability is encouraged and upheld.
The Chairman of ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, said ACTU has become a nationally recognised tool for identifying weaknesses in Ministries, Departments and Agencies and ensuring strict adherence to ethical standards.
Represented by the Resident Anti Corruption Commissioner, Chukwurah Alexander, he congratulated the new ACTU members and urged them to carry out their duties with diligence, integrity and professionalism while avoiding actions that may compromise the sensitive responsibilities they have been given.
Chairperson of the NRC ACTU, Clara Ndibe, pledged that the unit will work to enhance public trust and strengthen transparency within the corporation. She added that the team will focus on promoting ethical behaviour, improving compliance and enhancing internal processes that support the NRC’s mandate.
Leaders of the workers unions, including the President of the Nigerian Union of Railway Workers, Comrade Innocent Ajiji, and the Senior Staff Workers Union representative, Comrade Marcel Okeke, expressed their readiness to support the corporation’s renewed drive to eliminate corruption and promote more transparent railway operations.
