Nigeria’s First Lady and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled a major economic empowerment programme for persons living with disabilities in Akwa Ibom State, disbursing N50 million to beneficiaries as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, held at the Banquet Hall of the Uyo Government House, will see 250 persons with disabilities in each state and the FCT receive N200,000 each to grow or revive their existing businesses.

The announcement was delivered on behalf of the First Lady by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Inibehe Etukudo.

Senator Tinubu said the programme is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s drive to promote inclusive prosperity and ensure that vulnerable groups are not left behind.
She noted that N50 million has been allocated to every state for onward disbursement, benefiting 9,500 Nigerians living with disabilities nationwide.

She also declared that the N1.9 billion empowerment scheme will now be held annually on December 3 to coincide with the global observance of disability inclusion.
Dignitaries, including the State RHI Focal Person, Mrs Emem Orok, and top government officials, praised the initiative, describing it as a life-changing intervention.
The event also featured cultural performances and a symbolic presentation of credit alerts to beneficiaries.
