EKO HOT BLOG reports that the contractors said the continuous delay in payment had crippled their businesses and pushed many members into severe financial distress. They accused authorities of neglecting their plight despite repeated appeals for intervention.
An executive of the association told Daily Trust that the coffin was a symbol of the toll the debt crisis had taken on their members. He said they had buried several colleagues in recent months due to health complications linked to the pressure and hardship caused by the unpaid contracts.
He said, “Even last week we buried a member, Abdulganiyu. This has been going on for long. And it’s unacceptable. We lost six members recently due to high blood pressure.”
The group vowed to continue the protest until their concerns are addressed by the relevant authorities.
