Actor and filmmaker Ajemba Stanley, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, has alleged that the recently concluded Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) presidential election was manipulated.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the election, held in Edo State on December 6, saw National Secretary Abubakar Yakubu defeat Nollywood veteran Rita Daniels, mother of actress Regina Daniels.

Stanley expressed outrage on Instagram, describing the poll as “questionable” and claiming that undue influence compromised the process.

He insisted that the outcome did not reflect the true wishes of members, alleging that a powerful figure in Abuja interfered to sway the election.
According to him, Rita Daniels was the popular choice and would have won “hands down” if not for external forces. He accused some delegates of trading their votes for personal gain and criticised what he called a betrayal of the Guild’s values.
His post lamented the conduct of key participants, adding that the election was tainted by political manipulation rather than merit.
Stanley, while acknowledging other winners in the election, maintained that the presidential category was overshadowed by irregularities and vested interests. He urged industry stakeholders to demand accountability, saying the Guild cannot thrive when tainted by internal interference.

His comments have intensified discussions within Nollywood about transparency and leadership in the AGN. Some members have echoed concerns about the fairness of the electoral process, while others argue that the election followed established procedures.
The AGN has not formally responded to Stanley’s accusations, but the controversy has revived long-standing debates about reform, credibility and the independence of Guild institutions.
Many expect further reactions from senior stakeholders in the coming days.
