- Lagos Security Framework Now a Model for Nigeria – APC
- Says successive administrations from have treated security as a long-term governance priority rather than political rhetoric
- Lagos has maintained a consistent and intelligence-driven security framework
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says the Lagos Security Vision, developed and refined through two decades of uninterrupted progressive governance, has become a national benchmark for effective sub-national security management.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the party urged state governments across the country to study and adapt the Lagos model, arguing that Nigeria’s complex security challenges require a mix of local innovation, national coordination, and leadership focused on long-term stability.

Oladejo said that at a time when criminal threats are evolving and some political actors attempt to exploit insecurity for partisan gain, Lagos continues to show the benefits of strategic planning, sustained investment, and administrative continuity.
He noted that successive administrations from former governor and now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu—have treated security as a long-term governance priority rather than political rhetoric. This consistent approach, he said, has allowed the state to maintain relative stability, economic resilience, and social cohesion despite its dense population and rapid economic activity.
A major highlight of the Lagos Security Vision, according to the APC, is the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF). Established under Tinubu, the fund remains Nigeria’s most effective sub-national security financing model, providing continuous public-private support for operational tools, patrol vehicles, surveillance systems, and communication equipment for security agencies.
The party also pointed to technology-driven policing under Governor Sanwo Olu, including surveillance cameras, digital monitoring systems, and crime-mapping technologies that have strengthened intelligence-based responses and improved the capacity to deter threats.
Community engagement was identified as another defining pillar of the Lagos security architecture. By integrating traditional institutions, civil society groups, and community development associations into a coordinated network, the state has expanded intelligence-gathering channels and improved local ownership of security outcomes.

The APC further highlighted strengthened inter-agency cooperation among the police, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, LASTMA, FRSC and other federal and state bodies. It added that Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has developed a modern emergency response system capable of handling disasters and large-scale incidents with speed and professionalism.
According to the party, Lagos has maintained a consistent and intelligence-driven security framework that positions it well for seamless integration once constitutional reforms on state policing are finalised.
The APC criticised some opposition figures for politicising national security issues, insisting that Lagos has instead pursued a responsible and coordinated strategy that demonstrates the ability of sub-national governments to shape their security outcomes.
It noted that as the Federal Government advances national security reforms, Lagos continues to serve as a reference point for effective collaboration between federal agencies and proactive state structures.
The party urged other states to adopt elements of the Lagos model, emphasising that durable security requires long-term planning, leadership continuity, and alignment between national and local strategies.
