The viral video showed the pastor repeatedly striking the naked children, aged between five and nine, with fresh palm tree leaves. The footage captured the children crying and groaning loudly in pain, a distressing scene that quickly drew widespread condemnation.
In his defense, the pastor claimed that he was acting under the direct instruction of the Holy Spirit to perform the cleansing ritual.
Police operatives swiftly raided the church premises, arresting the 41-year-old pastor and several other church members. All 20 children were rescued from the scene and have since been placed in the care of the authorities.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, expressed his strong disapproval of the incident, assuring the public that a comprehensive and thorough investigation is currently underway.
He emphasized the importance of public vigilance and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals, especially minors.
