EKO HOT BLOG reports that the operation followed intelligence on the abduction of four persons at Rimi village in Jere District of Bassa LGA, according to security sources.
The sources disclosed that at about 3.28 a.m. on Friday, troops of Sector 1 deployed from Jingre and laid an ambush along the suspected escape route of the kidnappers.
“During the operation, the troops made contact with the kidnappers and exchanged fire, forcing them to abandon the four victims and flee,” the sources said.
They added that troops subsequently combed the surrounding area and discovered the corpse of one kidnapper who was neutralised during the encounter.
Items recovered from the fleeing suspects included one AK 47 rifle, one magazine, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
According to the sources, the rescued victims were immediately debriefed by the troops and later reunited with their families.
They said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the kidnap gang who escaped during the gunfight.

The sources further noted that no casualty was recorded on the side of the troops, adding that the morale and fighting efficiency of personnel involved in the operation remain high.
The development comes amid sustained military operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring security across Plateau State and other parts of the North Central region.
