Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has approved a ₦20 million donation to the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem appeal fund, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to security and the welfare of veterans and fallen heroes.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the donation was announced during the official launch of the remembrance emblem at the Women Development Centre in Calabar, where the governor was represented by his deputy, Peter Odey.

Governor Otu commended the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, paramilitary agencies, and other security operatives for maintaining peace in the state, describing their professionalism as central to Cross River’s stability.

He noted that recent security gains, including the arrest of notorious criminals, rescue of kidnapped victims, improved joint operations, and enhanced maritime surveillance, were products of effective collaboration between the government and security agencies.
The governor directed civil servants and political appointees in the state to wear the remembrance emblem throughout the commemorative period as a mark of respect for serving personnel and fallen heroes.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Community Development, Prof. Margaret Ene-Ita, described the event as a moment of collective reflection and appreciation, highlighting the administration’s initiative to support veterans, widows, and their families.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Cross River State, Comrade Daniel Ojugbo, said the annual remembrance is aimed at honouring sacrifices made in defence of national unity and peace, praising the governor for his consistent support since assuming office.
