A Romanian court has sentenced American rapper Wiz Khalifa to nine months in prison over a drug-related offence linked to a live performance in the country last year.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the verdict was delivered in absentia after prosecutors successfully challenged an earlier ruling that imposed only a fine on the hip-hop star.

The artist, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was arrested in July 2024 after allegedly using cannabis on stage during a music festival in Costinești, a resort town along Romania’s Black Sea coast.
Although he was initially fined and later released, prosecutors appealed the decision, arguing that the offence warranted a custodial sentence under Romania’s strict drug laws.
The appellate court agreed, replacing the monetary penalty with a nine-month jail term for illegal possession of a prohibited substance for personal use. The ruling is said to be final.
Wiz Khalifa is currently based in the United States, and authorities have yet to confirm whether steps will be taken to enforce the sentence through extradition.
