The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has joined key government officials and stakeholders at the two-day Lagos State Tax Reform Summit convened by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue in partnership with the State Treasury Office.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the summit, held to chart a clear implementation pathway for recent national tax reforms, focused on translating policy changes into practical outcomes that support economic growth, fairness, and ease of compliance.

Delivering the keynote address, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to building a balanced tax system that expands revenue without placing undue pressure on residents and small businesses.
Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that the reforms are structured to reduce multiple taxation, simplify tax processes for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, and protect low-income earners, while equipping Lagos State with sustainable revenue tools to meet its expanding infrastructure and service demands.
In his contribution, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Abdul-Kabir Opeyemi Ogungbo, described the summit as a platform for aligning Lagos State’s fiscal strategy with the Presidential Tax Reform agenda, stressing the importance of stakeholder buy-in and coordinated execution.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Ayodele Subair, also highlighted how the reforms would strengthen trust, improve compliance, and widen the tax net.
Reacting to the discussions, Hon. Olowa described the summit as timely and strategic, noting that “the engagements have provided clarity on how local governments can support effective implementation while ensuring fairness at the grassroots.”
He added that Ibeju-Lekki’s evolving economic landscape makes it critical for the council to fully align with the state’s reform direction.
He further stated that “with major investments such as the Lekki Free Zone and the Dangote Refinery within our axis, these reforms offer an opportunity to strengthen local revenue administration while improving service delivery to residents.”
The Ibeju-Lekki chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the THEME PLUS agenda of the Lagos State Government and pledged continued collaboration to ensure that tax reforms translate into tangible benefits for residents, businesses, and the overall development of the local government.
