The ceremony, which attracted top traditional chiefs, palace elders, community leaders and youth groups, also came against the backdrop of public conversations surrounding a similar title earlier associated with him outside Lagos.

Palace sources clarified that chieftaincy titles within Lagos State remain the exclusive prerogative of the Oba of Lagos, in line with long-established Yoruba customs and territorial jurisdictions.

While acknowledging the historical significance and revered status of the Alaafin of Oyo across parts of Yorubaland, the palace stressed that each kingdom retains sovereignty over its traditional institutions and titles.
According to the sources, the installation of Seyi Tinubu as Okanlomo of Lagos was carried out in strict adherence to Lagos traditional authority and cultural heritage.

Traditional chiefs present at the event described the honour as well deserved, citing Seyi Tinubu’s sustained engagement with young Nigerians, support for enterprise development and commitment to social impact initiatives.
Observers say the development reinforces respect among Yoruba monarchs and highlights the importance of clearly defined traditional jurisdictions while maintaining unity and cultural harmony.

Residents and well-wishers have since congratulated Seyi Tinubu on the honour, expressing confidence that he will use the platform to further serve humanity and contribute positively to society.
