EKO HOT BLOG reports that the development comes amid renewed hostilities between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to reports, the cash gift was transferred into the personal bank accounts of the lawmakers on the directive of the governor. However, the legislators allegedly rejected the gesture and returned the funds.
Sources said the lawmakers cited concerns over due process, accusing the executive arm of making financial withdrawals without legislative approval. They further alleged that the action violated constitutional provisions, Supreme Court rulings and the principle of separation of powers.
The incident has added another layer to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has been marked by power struggles and sharp divisions within the political class.
Meanwhile, the National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC South South, Victor Giadom, has declared that Wike remains the most dependable political leader in Rivers State.
Giadom said no politician, including Governor Fubara, could secure electoral victory in Gokana Local Government Area without Wike’s backing.
He made the statement on Tuesday during Wike’s Thank You Visit to the people of Gokana Local Government Area.
According to Giadom, the people of Gokana remain firmly loyal to Wike and President Bola Tinubu, describing the area as politically closed to any opposing influence.
“I guarantee, on behalf of my brothers, that the Gokana people are for Wike and Tinubu and nobody will challenge Wike’s influence in Gokana,” he said.
“Gokana is a no go area for anybody, even Governor Fubara. For him to win anything in Gokana, he must pass through Wike.”

The remarks have further highlighted the deepening political divide in Rivers State as tensions continue to rise between rival camps.
