EKO HOT BLOG reports that the directive followed widespread public outrage and viral social media posts detailing allegations from several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, had been instructed to take over the matter.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no formal complaint has been lodged,” Adebisi said.
She added that the police would also invite the alleged victims and other witnesses to provide statements and assist investigators.
Reports had earlier indicated that Pastor Okafor stepped aside from ministerial duties on New Year’s Day as the allegations continued to gain traction online.
The controversy reportedly intensified following Okafor’s wedding to a new bride, Pearl, on December 16, 2025, an event attended by several prominent clerics.
During a church service last Sunday, the pastor publicly apologised to Doris Ogala, admitting to what he described as past mistakes while kneeling on the pulpit and asking for forgiveness.
Ogala had earlier sparked the controversy on December 14 after posting emotional videos on Instagram, alleging a nine year relationship with the pastor which she said began in 2017. She accused him of promising marriage, sharing explicit content and contributing to her divorce and emotional distress.
In later posts, the actress claimed the pastor offered her ten thousand dollars to withdraw her allegations and blame another cleric. She subsequently demanded one billion naira in damages, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention.
As the allegations widened, other women, including Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also made claims of infidelity, deception and physical abuse.
However, some members of the church have dismissed the allegations, describing them as attempts to blackmail their spiritual leader.

Adebisi said the police had reached out to individuals who interviewed the alleged victims to help identify witnesses, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish the truth of the claims.
