The group warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against any move aimed at obstructing the governor’s re-election bid.

The endorsement comes amid political shifts in Rivers State following Governor Fubara’s recent move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, a decision that has reshaped the state’s political landscape.
Reacting to criticism from Wike, the council described Fubara as a symbol of stability and responsible leadership, insisting that he has remained focused on governance despite political distractions.
According to the IYC, the governor’s administration has prioritised infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education, healthcare delivery, peace-building, and transparency in governance.
Alaye cautioned that the calm disposition of the Ijaw people should not be mistaken for weakness, stressing that they remain united in support of Fubara’s leadership.

He added that the council does not recognise any political arrangement that undermines the constitutional authority of the Rivers State governor.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has urged the Ogoni people and the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) to embrace unity and collective action.
The governor made the call in a message marking the annual Ogoni Day celebration, describing the event as a symbol of resilience and historical struggle.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Rivers State Government to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development in Ogoniland and across the state.
