Sanwo-Olu announced the donations on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting, which featured the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund at Lagos House, Ikeja, ahead of the January 15 commemoration.

He described the annual emblem appeal as a constitutional and moral duty, stressing the need to continually honour members of the armed forces who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty, as well as those who sustained life-altering injuries in service.
“Our sovereignty as a nation exists because of these brave men and women. Supporting the Nigerian Legion is our way of expressing gratitude for their sacrifices,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor assured the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion of continued government support, noting that remembrance must go beyond ceremonies to tangible assistance that improves the welfare of veterans and their families.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion, Mr Akeem Wolimoh, commended the governor and the state government for their consistent support, describing Lagos as one of the most supportive states to legionnaires in the country.
Wolimoh said previous interventions by the Lagos State Government had helped improve the living conditions of members, including empowerment programmes for dependants through skills acquisition initiatives coordinated by the Ministry of Women Affairs and other government agencies.

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro; Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde; members of the State Executive Council; and officials of the Nigerian Legion.
Also present were senior security officials, including the Commander of Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, Air Commodore M. A. Imam; Commander of 9 Brigade, T. A. Lagbaja Cantonment, Brigadier-General A. O. Owolabi; and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh.
